Federal Controller of Works, Engr. Ajani Adeyemo Rasaq has cautioned motorists against plying the ongoing rehabilitation portion of the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway.
He gave the advice in a statement issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra state, in reaction to a trending video on supposed error done along the highway.
Rasaq who doubles as the supervisor in charge of the ongoing construction work, said vehicles were not supposed to ply the road until completion of the construction work.
He explained that the road in question was a 2 lane with an asphalt shoulder and not 3 lanes as depicted in the said video.
“At the end of the construction work, there will be a road marking that will clearly differentiate the two lanes from the asphalt shoulder while temporary measures have already been put in place to limit any crash that may occur at the particular spot.
“Safety devices like road signs will be put in place to notify all road users plying that particular point of the expressway.
“However, the Federal Controller of Works advised that vehicles are not supposed to ply the road until completion of the construction work,” the statement quoted the Controller to have said.
“The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra hereby assures Ndi Anambra that the command as part of its efforts in ensuring safer roads in Anambra will collaborate with Federal Controller of Works to ensure that safety measures are put in place by the contractor to avoid occurrence of mishaps along the region,” the statement concluded.
