“Smiling through it all:” Kechi Okwuchi marks 15th Year of Surviving Sosoliso Air Crash




Today makes it exactly 15 years since the tragic event that occurred on 10th December 2005. There were 110 passengers on board and only two of the them lived beyond the moment of the crash. One of the two was Mrs. Bimbo Odukoya who was famous for her TV relationship and marriage counseling program titled, “Single and Married”. Bimbo Odukoya later died as a result of the crash leaving kechi Okwuchi as the only survivor of the crash.

Kechi Okwuchi hails from Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State and is also a citizen of the United States of America. Kechi suffered third degree burns on over 65% of her body. It is therefore a miracle to so many people that she still lives and thrives.

As part of marking the dreadful day, Kechi, in her own words wrote on her Twitter page; “Smiling through it all. I know I’ve come a long way but reminders like this pic from 14 years ago really drive it home for me.

“I hope this encourages someone. No matter what you’re currently going through, if you’re not dead, God’s not done. Period.”

Beyond the incident, the 31-year-old went on to reach the finals of America God Talent talent hunt show twice. She also went on to bag an MBA at the University of Saint Thomas, Texas, USA.

Currently, Kechi trends as a media personality, singer and motivational speaker.
