Anglican bishop of Ideato Diocese, Imo State, Rt. Rev. Henry Okeke has called on Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma and his predecessor, Sen. Rochas Okorocha to sheath their swords to allow peace reign in the state.
He described the faceoff between the duo as distraction and unnecessary, appealing to them not to allow their crossed paths to affect the peace being enjoyed by the people of the state.
Addressing newsmen on Tuesday, the cleric also appealed to the stakeholders, particularly elders of the communities where the two politicians hail from to invite them for a meeting to resolve their differences for the smooth running of the state.
He said, “As a spiritual father, my candid advise will be for the former Governor Rochas and the incumbent Governor Uzodinma to please help our state, Imo State and avoid the ongoing crisis between them, because crisis does not develop anywhere.
“It will also be nice for the stakeholders particularly the elders of the communities where they come from, to invite their sons, Uzodinma and Okorocha to a meeting to actually dig into what the problems are and how to resolve them.
“We sometimes sympathize with the followers, innocent electorates and citizens who do not know secrets behind the fighting of the elephants.
“Sometimes it is not all the things we see, read in the newspapers papers and watch on the televisions that are the realities, there are so many things people do not know and how they started when politicians fight, you only see fight going on in the media, but the genesis you may not know.”
Okeke, who translated to the diocese from Mbamili diocese in Anambra State, further disclosed the diocese’s proposed N1 billion endowment funds to drive its 5-years vision for its missionary and social development, calling for support from members and friends of the Diocese.
He said, “The Diocese of Ideato’s Vision 2021-2025 is in nine stages, namely, Mission and Discipleship, Women, Youth and Children, Social Works/Community/Clergy Welfare, Education, Theological Training and Capacity Building.
“Other aspects of the Vision are Finance/Investment/Health, Project, Empowerment and Security, Cathedral, Music and Media, Land, Agriculture and Politics and finally History and Documentation.
“The mandate to serve the people of Ideato, was the declaration of their tripod road map tagged “The CDU of the gospel, which he said means, the gospel Convert, the gospel Develops and the gospel Unites.
“The mantra which formed the heart of my maiden sermon on the day of my enthronement in Diocese of Ideato, on September 29, 2020 at the Cathedral Church of St Peter, Ndiawa, Arondizogu, later formed the base of the Ideato Diocesan Vision 2025.”
