In a radio interview she granted recently, the award-winning author of Half Of A Yellow Sun, Chimamanda Adichie, shocked the presenter, and indeed the entire world, when she revealed that Chimamanda was not her real name. She said that she created the name herself.
At a point during the interview, she said, “…and actually, it’s a long story which I don’t want to tell you now, because I made up the name.”
Then the clearly baffled presenter quipped, “you were not named Chimamanda?” To which the writer replied, “No, I invented Chimamanda! I created Chimamanda.
