A middle-aged commercial motorcyclist was on Monday crushed to death by a speeding driver in Uli Ihiala Anambra State.
The accident which occurred around 9am involved Nissan Caravan with registration number GDD 623 XA and unidentified rider of a Kasea motorcycle without registration number.
An eyewitness said the crash was caused by speeding and driving against traffic.
The Sector Public Education Officer, Florence Edor who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the Sector Commander, through the Sector Head of Operations, Deputy Corps Commander AO Ogbodo warned motorists against speeding which usually led to traffic crash.
He also warned motorcycle riders to desist from riding against traffic and to always wear their safety helmet to avoid head injury when there was crash.
He said, “A fatal traffic crash happened today at Uli Ihiala Anambra State today 3rd May, 2021 at about 0859 hrs.
“The crash was between unidentified driver of a Nissan Caravan with registration number GDD 623 XA and unidentified rider of a Kasea motorcycle without registration number.
“The motorcycle rider with his Pillion were riding against traffic when they were knocked down by the speeding Nissan driver.
“Twelve persons were involved in the crash comprising of (9 male adults and 3 female adults)
“The occupants of the motorcycle were rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital by FRSC rescue team from Ihiala Command and the rider was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and his body deposited at Angles Mortuary, while the Pillion who sustained serious injury is receiving treatment at the hospital.
“The Bus and the motorcycle were taken to Uli Police station by men of the Nigerian Police and obstruction caused by the crash has been cleared.”
