Insecurity: Youth groups demand ENDSARS panel implementation

A coalition of Eastern Youths under the aegis of South East Igbo Youth Stakeholders has called for full implementation of the recommendations of the ENDSARS panel report especially on Youths.

It also called on Federal Government and Southeast Governors to de-proscribe Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation and to also release political prisoners from the South East.

The group also endorsed the Southern Governors meeting, urging them to form appropriate legal frame work to implement their resolutions.

The expanded Igbo Youth stakeholders comprised Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth, National Youth Council of Nigeria (southeast), Nigerian Youth Congress (Southeast), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and other youth leaders of Southeast extraction.

Reading out the 13-paragraph communique on behalf of the groups after its convention on Thursday in Awka, Comrade Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu also called on political parties to zone their Presidential candidates to the South-East for the sake of fairness, equity and justice, adding that all important Youth Security Stakeholders Summit should be annual event to appraise security.

The group further condemned wanton destruction of property in zone, calling on Southeast governors to encourage state police by strengthening and digitalizing local vigilante.

The communique read in part: that South-East Governors should synergize and liaise with the relevant stakeholders especially the youth to arrest the current security challenges in the area; those who destroy are criminals and they should desist and seek for a proper means of airing their grievances;

“As a step towards genuine peace and reconciliation as championed by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Federal Government and South-East Governors should as a matter of urgency un-proscribe IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra) as a terrorist organization.

“Furthermore, all political prisoners of Igbo extraction should be released; Southern Governors should form necessary legal framework for immediate implementation of their resolution;

“South-East Governors should fully implement the recommendations of the ENDSARS panel report especially on Youths and review the Laws of their various State Security Council Committee to include critical youth stakeholders.

“South-East Governors should adopt business friendly policies to attract Ndigbo’s investments back home in Ala-Igbo; Igbo businessmen should consider investing massively in Ala-Igbo (Aku Ruo Ulo).
