The Executive governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, recently dissolved the leadership of Imo Council Of Traditional Rulers. The Chairmanship of the council otherwise known as Eze Imo, is the foremost traditional post in the state. This has made it necessary for the government to begin the process of filling the vacuum created by the dissolution. ONITSHAGRA.COM learnt that there is already an intense politicking between the different senatorial zones of the state over which zone will produce the next Eze Imo.
Meanwhile, a group of leaders from Okigwe Zone, under the umbrella of Okigwe Leaders Assembly (OLA), has called the attention of the governor to the zoning formula which has been used over the years to decide who becomes the Eze Imo. The group which spoke to Newsmen at a press conference through their secretary, Mr. Henry A Anyanwu, said that according to the zoning formula, it is the turn of Okigwe Senatorial Zone to produce the next Eze Imo. They also raised alarm over an alleged underground plan by a group of overambitious individuals to sponsor a candidate from Orlu Senatorial zone to become the next Eze Imo. The person fingered as the said candidate is the current chairperson of the Imo Community Policing, Eze E. C Okeke of Amaifeke Autonomous Community.
The group therefore urged the governor to respect the principles of equity and fairness by ensuring that the Okigwe Zone produces the next Eze Imo. They also called all Okigwe sons and daughters who have access to the Governor, such as the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Paul Emeziem, Secretary to the government of Imo State, Chief Cosmas Iwu, to prevail on the governor to do the needful.
