Igboukwu and Ekwuluobia Communities In Anambra State Boil As Police Kill Two

Police stations have been set ablaze in Igboukwu and Ekwuluobia communities respectively. This we learned was carried out an angry group of commercial motorcyclists. Reports reaching ONITSHA GRA have it that one of their colleagues was gunned down by a policeman on Tuesday night in Igboukwu for refusing to give the policeman N50 bribe.

On Wednesday, the commercial motorcyclists from both Igboukwu and Ekwuluobia mobilized and marched to the police station in Ekwuluobia to register their grievances. In an attempt to disperse them, another motorcyclist was incidentally shot dead by the police, while others sustained gunshot wounds. This stirred the anger of the motorcyclists who invaded the police station and set it ablaze while the policemen ran for their lives. The angry protesters also marched to the Igboukwu police station and also set it ablaze.

The state police command has reacted to the incident by arresting and detaining the policemen who were complicit in the killings. This seems to have brought about a significant level of calmness in the affected communities.
