The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra state has returned the sum of N716,800 found during an auto crash at Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the State, to the family of the deceased.
The crash which occurred along Onitsha-Owerri expressway, reportedly claimed two lives, the driver and a female passenger, Mrs Oparaocha, the owner of the found money.
Presenting the cash sum to the deceased son, Mr Chibueze Oparaocha, Unit Commander in Oraifite, Mr Bamidele Ayanwale said the amount was recovered by the FRSC officers while on rescue mission after the accident.
He said the deceased relatives were contacted through her mobile phone also found in her possession, adding that the money was returned to the son after a written undertaken with full identification by the Unit Intelligence Officer.
Responding, son to the deceased, Chibueze Oparaocha, expressed surprise over the magnanimous disposition of the FRSC, describing it as rare.
He said, “I was surprised when we got the call to come and collect the money found on my late mother. I did not believe that such gesture can still happen in Nigeria of today.
“I thank FRSC officers for their honestly and efforts. I urge them to keep it up.”
According to Ayanwale, the accident involved a Nissan Bus with registration number LSH517YG and a truck with registration number GGU83XA.
“Seven persons, including three males and four females were involved in the crash that happened on March 22, at Ozubulu. The driver and a passenger in the bus later died,” he added.
Attributing the cause of the crash to speeding, the Unit Commander urged motorists to always be patient when driving on the highways in order to avert loss of lives and property.
