Driver dies after crashing into stationary truck in Onitsha, Anambra state

A driver of a private car lost his life on Thursday in a fatal motor accident in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra state.

The accident which occurred around 11.55am at the popular Zik’s roundabout, involved a Toyota Highlander Jeep and a stationary Mark truck.

The deceased, the driver of the Jeep was said to be on top speed when he suddenly lost control and rammed into the truck parked by the side of the road.

Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Andrew Kumapayi said the deceased body was deposited at the morgue.

He warned motorists to exercise caution during the Easter celebration and should avoid unnecessary speeding which usually led to fatal crash.

He said, “A fatal crash happened at Ziks Round about Onitsha today 1st April, 2021 at about 1155hrs.

“The crash was between unidentified driver of a Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number AWK399EX and a stationary Mark Truck without registration number.

“One person was involved in the Crash, which is the driver of the Toyota Highlander Jeep.

“He was taken to Toronto hospital Onitsha by FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Outpost and confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and his body deposited at the morgue.

“FRSC Anambra is committed to a safer motoring environment.”
