Fear gripped many people when well-known names started to test positive for COVID-19 and some lost their lives to the virus. People who had been careless about adhering to the preventive measures started to take more precautions but unfortunately, it was too late for some people who had already been exposed some way or another.
Although a vaccine was not yet in place at the time, one must give kudos to healthcare workers who put themselves at the forefront of the danger and ensured that not everyone who contracted the disease had to say the final goodbye. In light of remembering the lives of those who sadly lost their lives to the virus, we have compiled a list of some popular figures who won the fight against COVID-19 and stood as a symbol of hope for every other person.
1. Media personality Toke Makinwa.
The radio girl made the announcement that she tested positive for the virus via a post shared on her Instagram page. Toke also disclosed that she never knew how she got exposed to the virus. Luckily, the OAP is well and alive today and a COVID survivor.
2. Peter Okoye and his family.
The singer’s announcement came as a shock to his fans and followers on social media. More concerning was the fact that his wife and daughter tested positive for the virus. Peter in an Instagram post disclosed that they had to stay in isolation until the phase passed. Luckily, the whole family survived the ordeal.
3. Actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and her kids.
The actress left her fans on social media concerned after disclosing that she and her kids caught the virus in August 2020. Many flooded her page with kind words.
However, towards the ending of the same month, the actress returned with the good news that they had all recovered from the virus.
4. Actress Lola Alao
The US-based actress is also one of the COVID-19 survivors in 2020. Lola shared the news of her test with fans in August only after she had recovered from the virus.
5. Singer Davido’s fiancee Chioma.
The singer shared the news that his wife-to-be and mother of his first son had tested positive for coronavirus. However, Davido noted that he tested negative for the virus. In April, the singer returned to social media with the good news that Chioma’s second test came back negative.
6. Veteran singer Azadus
The music star shared the news that he had contracted the virus in June. Azadus also took to his Instagram page with photos showing him at the isolation centre where he received treatment.
7. Rapper Ladipoe
In October, the rapper took to his Instagram page with a post in which he disclosed that his COVID-19 tests came back positive. He urged fellow Nigerians to continue staying safe as the virus is still very much in town. Today, the rapper is also among the survivors of coronavirus.
8. Media executive Jason Njoku and wife Mary.
Just a few weeks ago, Iroko TV boss Jason Njoku took to social media with the news that he and his actress wife, Mary, had tested positive for coronavirus. However, in a different post shared in November, the media boss said he and his wife are well on their way to full recovery from the life-threatening virus.
