A middle-aged man was on Wednesday crushed to death while two others sustained varying degrees of injury in a fatal motor crash in Nnewi, Anambra state.
The accident which occurred around Nnewi diocesan hospital involved Toyota RAV4 with registration number NNE 43 JF and a black coloured Motorcycle.
The victims were said to be on the motorcycle when they were knocked down by the speeding driver, leaving the cyclist unconscious.
Confirming the incident, The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi said the motorcyclist was was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty in the hospital he was rushed to.
He warned motorist to ensure they put their vehicles in order before proceeding on any journey to avoid unnecessary traffic crash and to always drive as a defensive driver, who drives to save lives.
While condoling with the deceased family and wishing the injured victims accelerated recovery, he urged motorcycle riders should ensure they use safety helmet while riding to avoid head injury when traffic crash happens.
He said, “A fatal traffic crash happened this morning 23rd January, 2021 at about 1055. The crash was between unidentified driver of a green coloured Toyota RAV4 with registration number NNE 43 JF and a black coloured Motorcycle rider without registration number by Nnewi diocesan hospital
“Three persons were involved in the crash comprising of two (2) male adults and one (1 ) female adult. One male adult and one female adult sustained varying degrees of injury and was rushed to Nnewi diocesan hospital by a good Samaritan before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from Nnewi Unit Command.
“While the male Motorcycle rider was also taken to the same hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“FRSC rescue team from Nnewi Command on ground managing the traffic caused by the crash to ensure free flow of traffic.”
