Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) in Anambra state has advised workers to always anticipate possibility of outbreak of infectious diseases in their respective workplaces.
Head of Department, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Mr Izuka Udoka gave the advice during a road walk to mark the 2021 World Day for Safety and Health for workers with the theme, “Anticipate, Prepare and Respond to the Crisis”.
The event was also targeted at drawing the attention of workers on addressing infectious diseases outbreak at workplaces, in particular Covid 19.
He said such expectations would enable workers to be prepared to deal with the diseases by adhering to instructions and protocols issued by health authorities.
“It’s important for workers to anticipate at all times the possibility of outbreak of infectious diseases at workplaces and be prepared to deal with it by adhering to all instructions and protocols issued by health authorities,” he said.
Udoka further challenged government, private sector and other employers of labour to provide necessary support to ensure safe working environment for workers.
“Employers of labour must provide the necessary resilient occupational safety and health system to ensure conducive and safe working environment for the workers,” he added.
The sensitization activity witnessed a road show across major streets in Awka, during which fliers and facemasks were distributed and awareness created on the need for safety.
