A leading contender in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Lady Chidi Onyemelukwe on Tuesday pledged to restore trust and confidence in leadership and government of the state if elected.
She described the state as fiscally broke and morally broken, while its governance values were badly eroded.
Onyemelukwe, who ran a joint ticket with the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Oseloka Obaze in the 2017 governorship election, said it was regrettable she missed that opportunity to fix the state.
She said, “Governance values in Anambra State are badly eroded. Anambra State is fiscally broke and morally broken. Our people have experienced leadership, trust, fiscal, economic and infrastructure deficits.
“In 2017 we missed the opportunity to fix things. We must do so now. My main priorities are to restore trust and confidence, in both leadership and government; to tackle headlong the insecurity in our dear state, which is exarcebated by gross unemployment and neglect of our teeming population.
“I’ll also get our state infrastructure working again; sustain and protect existing public infrastructure and public properties and complete viable abandoned projects.
“I’ll fuel the ingenuity in our people by providing a conducive and enabling environment for Opportunities and Enterprise to thrive.”
Acknowledging the good road network in the state, Onyemelukwe, daughter to Nigeria’s first Vice President, late Dr. Alex Ekwueme promised to sustain and expand the roads.
“We must restore availability of pipe borne potable water to our cities, towns and villages. We shall ensure expansion of our agricultural and manufacturing capacities as a people.
“Anambra State will be fiscally secure and solvent under my watch. It has been done before and can be done again and even better. We shall govern with the fear of God.”
