A group, Independent Leaders Forum (ILF) has urged delegates of the People Democratic Party (PDP) to vote against one of the party’s aspirants, Dr. Godwin Maduka at the June 26 primary election over alleged violation of money politics resolutions.
The group which members were drawn from critical stakeholders of the PDP, condemned the act, describing it as irresponsible and betrayal of confidence.
The 16 PDP aspirants, had during a meeting convened by former Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh and targeted at discouraging money politics, agreed to a token of 3,000 for consultations with statutory delegates.
But addressing reporters on Wednesday, President of the group, Obinna Okafor said Maduka, in less than 24hours after the resolution, reportedly gave the sum of N50,000 to all the chairmen, women and youth leaders in the 326 wards of the party.
He said, “We the members of Independent Leaders Forum (ILF) support wholeheartedly, the resolution reached at the meeting by all the aspirants, which among other things, aim to discourage money politics.
“We condemn in totality and with the strongest terms the unfortunate violation of that resolution by Dr. Godwin Maduka within 24hours by giving the 326 ward Chairmen, women and youth leaders a cash of N50,000 each.
“A quick reminder to Dr. Godwin Maduka and other aspirants that the vision and mission of ILF is to discourage disunity and ensure a smooth process that would produce a PDP governor in the Nov. 6 2021 scheduled governorship election and put an end to PDP’s 16 years of being out of government in the state.
“With reference to chapter 1.6.2 of PDP constitution (As amended in 2017) Character and Ethics – the policies and programmes of the party shall be determined by its leadership, who shall be accountable to the membership.
“Dr. Godwin Maduka has exhibited an irresponsible character that questions his integrity in keeping to an agreement and we encourage the PDP delegates, who are majority of our members to take any money given to them by Dr. Maduka and vote against him on June 26, 2021 primary election
