Former governor of Anambra state, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife has appealed to those he identified as northern brothers to allow Ndigbo to produce Nigeria’s president in 2023.
He allayed fears of revenge mission by the people of the Southeast if the region succeeded in occupying the presidential seat.
Ezeife spoke on Wednesday during a meeting with the inauguration committee of Anambra Elders and Stakeholders, ANELDERS Forum for Good Leadership held at his country home, Igboukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state.
He stressed that equity, justice and fair play demanded that Ndigbo or South East region produced a successor to president Muhammadu Buhari by 2023.
“I understand that our northern brothers are scared of having an Igbo man at the presidential seat because they think that once an Igbo man mounts the seat, Ndigbo will go for a revenge mission against all the perceived marginalization of Ndigbo.
“But I will soon establish contact with prominent northerners to make them understand that Ndigbo do not have anything like revenge mission in mind at all”.
” In specific terms, I will soon play host to a northern top notch whom I shall appeal to him to assist me in telling his people to allow a president of Igbo extraction to emerge with an assurance that an Igbo president will return this country to its past glory”.
He commended the Founder/Chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT of ANElDA forum for Good Leadership, Justice Alpha Ikpeama for unifying Anambra elders and stakeholders’ think tank as to think home with the aim of providing effective platform for transmission of progressive ideas to government and those in the leadership authority.
“This step will also ensure that views and opinions of Ndi Anambra are not only sought by policy makers before formulating major policies on good governance cum leadership, but will also ensure that such views and opinions are incorporated into policy frame work.
Responding, Justice Alpha Ikpeama, ANELDA founder/ BoT chairman, noted that the leadership forum has transformed into Igbo leadership organization, comprising all the states in the Southeast and part of South South of Igbo speaking areas/Igbo extraction.
Alpha identified the foot soldiers of this leadership organization who are in constant communications with ANELDA as Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu who is currently the chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders Council; Rev.
Eches E. Echoes, chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Imo state chapter; Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, Archbishop of Anglican Province of Enugu and bishop of Enugu Diocese, Barr Casmir Agbo, coordinator of Enugu Elders and leadership forum among others.
