Gbenga Favour Olaoye Akanbi, a level 300 Agriculture student at the University of Illorin, was found dead after ingesting what was believed to be an extremely toxic substance on Sunday 20th December 2020.

Favour had introduced what he believed was a genuine forex business to his friends and school mates and convinced them to invest in the business through him. After collecting about N300m from different people, he invested the money with a company he did not realize was fictitious.

His contact in the said company was one Chukwutem Gospel who later vanished with no trace. When his friends who invested in the business noticed that he was no longer forthcoming, they confronted him and he assured them that everything was okay. But that was not to be as the case degenerated to the point of involvement of the police. He was arrested and later released. But since then, pressure has increasingly mounted on him to repay investors.

It appears that he could no longer bear it and so committed suicide.

May his soul rest in peace.
